NORTH BRANCH, MI – On Sunday October 25th, 2020, at 8:43 AM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to a single vehicle traffic crash with at least one person injured on Silverwood Road north of Ducker Road in North Branch.

A motorist discovered an overturned pickup truck within a swampy area off the roadway. The lone occupant was potentially deceased. Deputies determined that the driver and only occupant attended a Halloween Party at a private residence within the immediate area.

Around 12:00 AM on Sunday, Skyler Reeves, 23-years-old, of North Branch Township, left the party driving his 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck. Reeves was traveling south on Silverwood Road and failed to navigate a right curve (for southbound traffic) within the roadway north of Ducker Road. Reeves vehicle struck a roadway sign when it left the roadway. The pickup truck traveled airborne into a swampy wooded area. The truck struck several trees before coming to rest on its passenger side. Reeves was not wearing a seat belt and was trapped inside of the vehicle.

Skyler Reeves was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Branch Township Fire Department removed the victim from the vehicle. The preliminary investigation supports that lack of seat belt usage being a factor in the fatal traffic crash. Toxicology analysis by the Lapeer County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending to determine if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Troopers from the Michigan State Police (Lapeer Post), North Branch Township Fire Department, Lapeer County EMS Ambulance Service, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, and Yakes Towing in North Branch.

This fatal traffic crash remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office. If anyone has information, they can call Detective Sgt. Jason Parks at 810-656-1015 or jparks@lapeercounty.org.
