Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Alpena Man for B & E of Verizon Store

ALPENA, MI – Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post were called to the Verizon Store in Alpena Township on August 16th, 2020, at approximately 10:30 a.m., concerning a Breaking and Entering that had occurred during the over night hours while the business was closed.

A store associate who arrived to open the store for business that morning discovered the alarm sounding and that several display phones were missing. After reviewing video surveillance, it was determined that the suspect had gained entry through the back door. The scene was then processed for evidence.

On September 5th, 2020, a trooper stopped a vehicle on M-32 W for speeding in Wilson Township. The driver, Cameron Michael Daoust, 19-years-old, of Alpena, was arrested on two outstanding warrants and also charges stemming from the traffic stop. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of several cell phones that were stolen from the Verizon Store breaking and entering. A report of these findings were submitted to the Alpena County Prosecutors Office for review.

On October 26th, 2020, an arrest warrant was issued for Cameron Daoust. Troopers located Daoust and arrested him. He was placed in the Alpena County Jail until he was arraigned on the following charges:

  • Breaking and Entering a Building with Intent
  • Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property $1000 or more but less than $20,000
  • Probation Violation
  • Contempt of Court
  • Person under 21 Transport/Possession of Alcohol in Vehicle
  • Weapons-Firearms-Improper Possession of Firearm in/upon Motor Vehicle

His bond was set at $50,000 or 10%. His next scheduled court appearance is set for November 2nd, 2020, in 88th District Court, for a Probable Cause Hearing.
