Bennett Family Home destroyed by fire -

DETROIT, MI – A family is trying to figure out where to turn after a fire destroyed their home located at 16677 Turner Street on October 19th, 2020.

This was a multi-family home. A daughter and her family living on the second floor and the grandmother living on the first floor. The house had been in the family for over 30 years. But all of that went up in flames. Everything is a total loss. The house was not insured for replacement.

The Bennett family is safe for now but with the winter months setting in and the temperatures dropping quickly, they need food, clothing and money to survive on. They even need a place to call home. Part of the household income evaporated when COVID-19 hit the nation like an out of control freight train.

Destroyed was a childhood family home. For some members of the family, it was the only home that they have ever known. This house meant a great deal to the family. It was their touchstone. Their rock. Now members of this family are sleeping on floors and couches of those who have space that they can provide on a temporary basis.

The grandmother had put so much into the property over the many years. She stayed in this community when times were good and when they became very hard. She is known by all of her neighbors around her. The Bennett family is well respected in the community.

The Bennett home had been a place to go and relax and to feel safe where you would not be hurt. It also was a place to just gather for a laugh and a great deal of fun. All of that now gone.

The Bennett family is finding it hard to reach out for help because of the pride that they have been able to provide for themselves for decades. But now they must turn to their friends, neighbors and even strangers to help them get back up on their feet. They are struggling more and more each day. They are confused as to which direction to turn next.

They have found trying to locate basic assistance difficult because they have never had to face such hardship. With COVID-19 also playing into the enormous problem of your home going up in flames, community resources appear to be focused mainly on the pandemic.

The Bennett family needs assistance with information also. Information about who can they contact for help? They are completely blind in all of this. They need someone to reach out to them and guide them immediately.

A Go Fund Me account has been established to assist in donations of cash to the family. If you would like to contribute to this fund, Please Click Here.
