CASEVILLE, MI – On Saturday November 7th, 2020, shortly after 4:00 p.m., Huron County Central Dispatch received a call about three kite boarders being in distress off of the Caseville beach area.

Huron County Sheriff Deputies responded to the call. The officers had to wait temporarily until an air boat was brought to the scene by the Caseville Fire Department.

It was determined that the lake conditions had calmed enough where the airboat could be launched. Caseville Fire Department Zodiac and a Good Samaritan were noticed in an aluminum boat coming from the south.

Over a period of approximately 25 minutes, all three kite boarders were rescued by the good Samaritan. A fourth person, that they were initially unaware of, was rescued by Caseville Fire.

The three men and one woman were from areas such as Midland and the Metropolitan Detroit area. They told deputies that the wind had died off quickly making them unable to get back to shore. Winds earlier in the day had been strong enough out of the Southwest for them and others to utilize their kite boards.
