MOUNT CLEMENS, MI – On Thursday November 5th, 2020, Macomb County Sheriff deputies responded to Rathbone Street in Mt. Clemens for an animal cruelty complaint. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the callers who brought deputies to a wounded kitten on the porch.

The kitten was bleeding and appeared to have a neck injury. The callers believed the kitten had been shot by a man who had driven around the block multiple times. Animal Control was contacted.

The homeowner reported seeing a dark colored vehicle, later found to be a black Buick Rendezvous, driving around his block several times. He called a family member who also observed the dark colored vehicle circle the block. The family member reported hearing a loud “pop” sound come from the vehicle as it passed the homeowner’s residence. The wounded kitten was located on the homeowner’s porch. The homeowner stated that he does not own the kitten but frequently will feed the stray cats in the area. He then contacted law enforcement.

Upon arrival, deputies requested Macomb County Animal Control respond to take custody of the wounded kitten. While gathering the information, one of the reporting persons pointed out the suspect vehicle as it drove by again. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle and Adam Christie, 39-years-old, of Mt. Clemens, was taken into custody.

Adam’s two minor children were also in the vehicle and turned over to a third party. A BB gun was located in the back seat of the vehicle and collected as evidence.

Due to the severity of the kitten’s injury, it was euthanized at the Macomb County Animal Control. The injuries to the kitten were consistent with being shot by a BB gun.

Information was submitted to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office and one count of Animal – Killing/Torturing – Third Degree (felony) was authorized on Christie. Christie has been charged and an arraignment date has not yet been set. Christie was photographed, printed, and released and will be arraigned in the 41B Clinton Township District Court.
