MANISTEE COUNTY, MI – Michigan State Police Troopers from the Cadillac Post are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday evening in Manistee County. One teenager is dead and three others are reported to be in very serious condition.
On Friday November 13th, 2020, at approximately 9:50 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post responded to a one vehicle crash on River Road, approximately one mile east of US-31, in Manistee Township.
The initial investigation at the scene of the crash indicates that a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling east on River Road with four teenagers inside, all boys from Manistee County, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the side of the road. The vehicle then rolled several times. One of the teenagers was still inside of the Jeep when troopers arrived on scene and had to be extricated.
All of the boys sustained very serious injuries from the crash and were transported to Munson Hospital in Manistee and later transferred to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids or Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for more advanced treatment of their injuries.
Unfortunately, one of those teenagers died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.
Alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Manistee Township Fire, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Police Department, Onekama Township Fire, Manistee City Fire/EMS, and North Flight EMS.
