WINSOR TOWNSHIP, MI – This morning, Monday November 16th, 2020, shortly after 9:30 a.m., Huron County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residence on S. Caseville Rd., south of M-142 in Winsor Twp., which was the scene where an elderly couple was found dead by a family member.
The preliminary investigation is indicating that 87-year-old James C. Sauer shot his 85-year-old wife Margaret A. Sauer with a handgun, then took his own life with it sometime this morning prior to being found.
No other evidence suggests otherwise at this time, which includes prior health problems and disputes between the two. This investigation will be ongoing with autopsies to take place in the coming day or two.
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Scheurer Ambulance Service and an investigator from the Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office.
We cannot know what problems that this couple faced or were facing at this time in their lives. This report comes on the heels of an article that was published on MI Headlines about a 25-year-old Oakland County woman who took her own life last week. That was after she posted a suicide note to Facebook.
