ALPENA, MI – Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) post Alpena were called to a residence on Michigan Avenue in Alpena on February 3rd, 2020, at approximately 9:50 pm, for a breaking and entering complaint.

The suspect entered the residence through the front door of the house while the homeowner was away. Once the homeowner arrived back home they noticed several items were missing and contacted authorities.

Once on scene, the homeowner informed the troopers who she thought had taken the items from her residence. The alleged suspect was identified as 41-year-old Janae Elizabeth Marotta.

A lengthy investigation followed where several people were interviewed. Troopers developed probable cause to execute a search warrant on Janae Marotta’s home. Several stolen items were discovered at that time. A report was submitted to the Alpena Prosecutors Officer for review where an arrest warrant was issued for Marotta on October 27, 2020. The MSP 7th District Fugitive Team arrested her on October 28th. She was then lodged in the Alpena County Jail.

Janae Marotta was arraigned on November 17th, 2020, in 88th District Court in Alpena for one count of Home Invasion 2nd Degree. Her bond was set at $5,000 10%. Her next scheduled court appearance is for December 1st, 2020 at 2:30 pm.
