PLYMOUTH CHARTER TOWNSHIP, MI – Trooper Daniel Drewyor with the Michigan State Police (MSP) Brighton Post was on patrol when he came across a traffic crash on Tuesday November 17th, 2020.
The accident was caused by what is believed to be icy roads. This accident occurred on the I-275 bridge over Ann Arbor Road in Wayne County.
Bridges like that of the one over I-275 will freeze over faster than general road surfaces.
Trooper Drewyor happened to be in the right place at the right time. He pulled up to the crash site shortly after it took place. The 56-year-old driver of the vehicle that had caught fire was trapped inside.
The Trooper grabbed a fire extinguisher to reduce the flames in hopes that the driver could be rescued. After blasting the vehicle with the extinguisher, the officer ran over to the passenger side and was able to get the trapped driver out and pulled him to safety.
The driver was taken to a local area hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. He is listed in stable condition. The driver’s passenger, his 5-year-old grandson, suffered minor injuries in the crash. He can be seen in the video being taken to a Jeep by a man who had also stopped at the scene of the crash. That driver placed the little boy in his vehicle to keep him safe and warm.
