EATON RAPIDS, MI – At approximately 4:30 pm today, Saturday November 21st, 2020, Michael McKerchie, 32-years-old, was seen leaving a convenience store in Eaton Rapids driving a black pick-up.
The alert citizen called 911 with a description. An Eaton Rapids Officer spotted a vehicle matching the description given and attempted to stop it. McKerchie fled from the officer, in the vehicle, before crashing in a cemetery and fleeing on foot.
Eaton County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived in the area a short time later to establish a perimeter and were alerted by a citizen that his pick-up had just been stolen moments earlier. Eaton County Deputies located and pursued that vehicle before eventually getting it stopped.
Michael McKerchie was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. He will now face several charges in Eaton County in addition to those he is already facing in Ingham County.
McKerchie escaped from his cell on Thursday night by dismantling a window and was believed to have left the area in a stolen pickup truck.
Michael McKerchie was being held on four felony charges and has a history of escaping from detention.
The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office recognizes the efforts of the Eaton Rapids Police Department, Eaton County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police 1st District Fugitive Team in their efforts capturing this fugitive.
