DETROIT, MI – Nathan Lee Taylor, 34-years-old, of Detroit, has been charged in connection with an armed robbery of a 45-year-old man, also of Detroit. He has also been charged in connection with assaulting, resisting and obstructing the police while armed with a handgun.

On Friday November 20th, 2020, at 9:53 p.m. , a scout car with four Detroit police officers was traveling near West Chicago and Schaefer Hwy near the parking lot of a liquor store.  They noticed Nathan Taylor with a handgun pointing it at the 45-year-old man as he stood by his car. The police pulled near the victim’s car to investigate what appeared to be a robbery in progress.

As the police exited their car to investigate, it is alleged that Nathan Taylor pointed his gun at them. Fearing for his life and the life of his three partners one officer fired his weapon striking Taylor one time.  He ran for a short time and collapsed by the liquor store. Taylor was disarmed and taken to a local hospital for treatment and released into the custody of the police.

The investigation by the police revealed that Taylor came to the driver’s side of the car and robbed the victim of money and various personal property.

Taylor has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Felon;
  • two counts of Possession of Ammunition by a Felon;
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon;
  • Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent;
  • four counts of Felonious Assault;
  • three counts of Assaulting and Resisting and Obstructing the Police;
  • and 11 counts of Felony Firearm.

The defendant was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 30, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 7th, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Roberta Archer in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $75,000 cash/surety bond. He is represented by attorney Randal Upshaw.
