MADISON HEIGHTS, MI – On Friday November 27th, 2020, at approximately 5:50 AM, troopers responded to eastbound I-696 near Dequindre in Madison Heights for a hit and run serious crash. Witnesses described the fleeing driver as a white male wearing shorts and being the only occupant of the vehicle.
Additionally, the suspect left his wallet in the driver’s seat prior to running from the crash scene. Surrounding police agencies were given the name and description of the suspect.
At approximately 8:30 AM, a Hazel Park officer observed a man wearing shorts walking on the I-75 service drive near 10 Mile Rd.
The suspect was identified and it was confirmed the wallet belonged to him. He was also highly intoxicated.
He was transported to the post were he was interviewed, processed and registered twice the legal limit for alcohol. The suspect thought the MSP helicopter was following him and he was going to be caught.
It turned out it was the local TV helicopter filming the traffic backup after the crash. He is currently lodged at the Oakland County Jail. The victim in the crash suffered a broken leg and is in good condition.
