MASON, MI – Today, Saturday November 28th, 2020, there remains two COVID-19 positive inmates that have yet to complete their 10 day isolation period. Both are recently arrested major felony suspects that were known positive when taken into custody. They are currently housed in isolation with minor or no symptoms.

All other inmates having tested positive have completed their 10 day isolation period and remain symptom free, or symptoms have significantly improved. Most were asymptomatic to begin with, and were unware they were COVID positive. Only minor medical interventions have been needed for a handful of positive inmates, none needing transfer to a medical facility.

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office has worked in conjunction with the Ingham County Health Department prior to, during, and after the recent COVID issue to facilitate best practices in a jail/congregate setting. Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth said “I am proud of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office, the Jail Medical staff of the Ingham County Health Department and Facilities staff for all their work during this 2+ week period, which included cleaning, mass testing, isolating, and daily monitoring the health and safety of all inmates, especially those positive.”

They have facilitated a freshly sanitized 14 day quarantine dorm which remained empty until they started housing new prisoners at ICSO on Wednesday 11-25-20.

Working with the courts, they reduced the jail inmate population from 300 on 11-10-2020, to 266 on 11-28-20.

Sheriff Wriggelsworth would also like to thank the work of Lansing Police Detention, the East Lansing Jail, and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office for helping them with the lodging of fresh arrests during this period. The jail staff will continue to utilize best practices, and rely on the communicable disease experts at the Health Department to continue playing defense against the invisible offense.
