MAYFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday November 30th, 2020, at 10:10 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to a domestic disturbance on Knoll Drive in Lapeer. Initial information was that an individual within the house was armed with a knife. No assault occurred at the residence.
Deputies were approaching the residence at 10:18 PM when it was conveyed through 911 that the individual had fled the residence. A vehicle description of a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse was provided.
Deputies noticed the individual, now identified as 27-year-old Aaron Riley, of Lapeer, in the vehicle near the residence. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The Riley failed to comply and subsequently traveled north on Saginaw Street. The vehicle did entered a private business property near the intersection of Saginaw and Davis Lake Road where it traveled across the yard to regain access to the roadway while evading deputies. The direction of the chase changed to southbound on Saginaw Street toward Lapeer.
Speeds were about 50 MPH on snow covered roadway during incumbent weather conditions. The pursuit distance total was approximately two miles. There was information that the subject was talking to someone on the phone regarding intentions of crashing the vehicle. The individual further remained armed with a knife.
City of Lapeer Police Department assisted by blocking the intersection of Saginaw Street and Oregon Road in Lapeer. At 10:22 PM, Deputies utilizing their patrol cruisers were able to successfully demobilize the individual’s vehicle in the intersection.
Aaron Riley was taken into custody without further event and the knife secured. He was lodged at the Lapeer County Jail on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and fleeing-eluding a police officer.
The Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office authorized formal criminal charges on Tuesday December 1st, 2020.

2) Driving While License Suspended | Denied | Revoked (2nd offense)
3) Operating while intoxicated high BAC (.17 or more).
Arraignment within the 71-A District Court of Lapeer occurred within the early afternoon hours of Tuesday December 1st, 2020. Bond was set at $10,000 (personal recognizance). Next scheduled court date is 12/11/2020.
