DETROIT, MI – The victim who was shot and killed by her former boyfriend Monday night near Grand River and Warren Avenue has been identified as 28-year-old Shavon Mitchell.
Shavon was working her way out of a very abusive relationship that she had with her 5-year-old son’s father. He is identified as 28-year-old Kevin Fox.
The two started dating when they were in high school. Over the years the relationship became toxic where Kevin Fox was abusing Shavon Mitchell.
On November 30th, 2020, Shavon Mitchell was shot and killed, near Grand River and Warren Ave, at approximately 11:15 PM Monday night. Kevin Fox took her life in what is being called a domestic dispute regarding the custody of their 5-year-old son that they had in common.
Detroit Police were trying to locate Fox on Tuesday morning. On December 1st 2020, at approximately 5:30 AM, Detroit Police requested assistance near Conner at Mack for a person firing at or near Detroit Police Department Precinct #5. They were calling for that assistance because Kevin Fox was armed with an AR-15 and had arrived at the precinct where he opened fire on the building and a scout car. Those bullets hit that vehicle where the bullets shattered glass. Shards of glass were flying in all directions. A Detroit Police officer was injured by that flying glass as it hit him in the face.
During a standoff with police, Kevin Fox was still armed with the AR-15 against his chest. He was ordered to put the weapon down. He did not comply with those orders. Officers lives were at risk because the suspect was being very aggressive. The suspect was shot and killed by officers assigned to the SRT.
At 8:10AM, all Michigan State Police units had cleared the scene. DPD units remained to bring the situation to a close now that Kevin Fox was no longer a threat to anyone.
