LAPEER, MI – On Thursday December 10th, 2020, at 10:12 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to an injury traffic crash on Suncrest Drive to the north of Oregon Road in Lapeer.
A 2000 Mercury was traveling north on Suncrest Drive. The driver was exceeding the posted 25 MPH speed limit. The driver failed to successfully navigate a curve. The vehicle slide sideways, departed the roadway, and subsequently struck two trees. The vehicle was split in half when it slammed into the trees.
The driver and only occupant, a 37 year old man from Lapeer, was transported to McLaren in Lapeer with life threatening injuries. The driver was later transferred to McLaren in Macomb and listed in serious but stable condition.
The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by City of Lapeer Police Department.
The preliminary investigation supports that excessive speed was a factor in the traffic crash. Toxicology analysis is pending to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor.
This traffic crash remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.
