ORION TOWNSHIP, MI – On Tuesday December 15th, 2020, Detectives assigned to the Oakland County Narcotic Enforcement Team (NET), executed a search warrant at the Red Roof Inn located at 2766 S. Lapeer Road in Orion Township as a result of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

As the search warrant was being executed, the suspect opened the door and Detectives announced their presence. Upon entry, the suspect grabbed the rifle of the first Detective. A second Detective attempted to get the suspect down on the ground and when doing so, the suspect let go of the rifle and was able to take the second Detective’s handgun from him. The suspect was then pinned to the floor and a third Detective was able to get the handgun away from the suspect.

At that point, the suspect was placed in handcuffs and an inventory search was done of the hotel room. Methamphetamine, heroin, narcotic analgesics, packaging material and a digital scale were recovered.

“I am proud of this team of Detectives who were put into a high-stress situation and exercised incredible restraint,” said Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. “It is a reminder that any situation or suspect can instantaneously become dangerous. Unarmed criminals can be just as lethal when they are able to disarm the police. It is not unusual to have an officer killed with their own weapon in a struggle. This happened to be the tragic outcome for Officer Mason Samborski of the Oak Park Police Department right here in Oakland County. We will ensure this violent criminal is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law for his actions.”

Reginald Anderson was arraigned on Thursday December 17th, 2020, in front of Magistrate Karen Holt at 52-3 District Court. He was given a $100,000 cash surety bond, no 10%. His next court date will be on December 20th, 2020, at 2:00pm in front of the Honorable Judge Lisa Asadoorian.
