MADISON HEIGHTS, MI – On December 21st, 2020, at approximately 6:06 PM, Madison Heights Police Department was called to the 300 block of W. 12 Mile in Madison Heights for a welfare check of a man slumped over the wheel.
Officers arrived and made contact with the lone white male occupant who was sitting in the driver’s seat of the 2013 White Chevy Equinox, Michigan Plate #DAT166. As the Officers spoke to the driver to see if he was alright, he put the car in gear and started to flee from officers. As the driver fled the scene he struck one of the MHPD Officers with his vehicle. The driver then fled from the location and got onto I-75 southbound. Officers pursued the vehicle until it was last seen in the area of 7 Mile and Conant where the pursuit then ended without the vehicle being located.
That Madison Heights Police Officer struck by the vehicle is a 4 year veteran of the department and suffered minor injury from the incident.
The suspect sought in this case has been identified as 31 year old Justin John Crawford. He is a white male 5’11” 170lbs, was last seen wearing a dark knit cap, and a dark jacket with “Lowe’s 48” written on it. Crawford has a cross tattoo on his left cheek.
