ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, MI – Two men are sitting in the Ottawa County Jail facing charges in connection to an armed robbery and carjacking that took place on Wednesday, December 16th, 2020 in Allendale Township.
On December 17th a four count felony warrant was issued for 18-year-old Brandon Michael McBride, of Grand Rapids, on charges of Armed Robbery, Carjacking, Fleeing and Eluding, and Felony Firearms. Brandon McBride was arraigned in the 58th District Court. He was given a $150,000 bond. McBride remains in the Ottawa County Jail as the investigation continues.
On December 18th, a second suspect, 18-year-old Tyane Jamar Barnes, of Grandville, was located by detectives and taken into custody without incident.
Tayne Barnes was lodged at the Ottawa County Jail. Charges were authorized by the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for Armed Robbery, Carjacking, Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Credit Card, and Felony Firearms. Barnes also remains in the Ottawa County Jail with a bond of $150,000.
The incident began at about 10:46 p.m. on December 16th when the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to Locale Apartments in the 4900 block of Pierce Street, after a victim reported their vehicle had been taken at gunpoint by two male subjects.
Ottawa County Central Dispatch then received a second call from separate victims reporting an attempted armed robbery in the same area. The suspects in both cases had the same description.
Deputies located the first victim’s vehicle in the Jenison area and attempted to make a traffic stop on the stolen car, but the vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued.
The chase led into Grandville and the stolen car was unable to negotiate a turn, ran off the road and crashed into a tree in the area of Canal Avenue and Blackfoot Drive.
