LAPEER, MI – A parolee with a list of previous convictions, along with his girlfriend, were arrested for a home invasion that took place Tuesday afternoon.
On Tuesday January 12th, 2021, at 1:22 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to a home invasion in progress on Gray Road in Lapeer County’s Oregon Township.
The 59-year-old female homeowner returned home and discovered a man inside of the residence. The man exited the house and walked along Gray Road. The woman kept watch on the male suspect while on the phone with 911. Before deputies arrived, a black in color pickup truck driven by a woman picked up the male suspect.
The vehicle was last observed traveling south on Gray Road. Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies intercepted the vehicle traveling west on Oregon Road near Elba Road in Lapeer at a radar speed of 67 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.
Deputies took position and activated the overhead emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop while traveling north on Elba Road from Oregon Road. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit of approximately one mile resulted. The vehicle unsuccessfully attempted to turn left (west) on McDowell Road and went off the roadway at 1:28 PM.
The male passenger exited the vehicle making statements that he had a weapon and wanted to “die” while engaging deputies. The male reached inside his clothing attire numerous times in a fashion to create concern a weapon was involved. Deputies utilized de-escalation techniques and attempted to negotiate a peaceful resolution. When more deputies arrived, the male returned to the vehicle while making threats to consume medication.
While deputies approached the vehicle to protect the male from harming himself, he exited and attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the male was taken into custody without incident. A knife was recovered that was associated to the male.
The man and woman were arrested and lodged at the Lapeer County Jail. The investigation was presented to the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday 01/13/2021 for formal criminal charges.
