BAD AXE, MI – On Wednesday December 30th, 2020, at 11:19PM, Huron County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from the home of Ricky H. Bailey concerning a home invasion where gunshots had been fired.
When Huron County Sheriff Deputies arrived on scene along with Bad Axe Police Officers, they found 59-year-old Ricky H. Bailey lying on the floor. He had been shot twice by unknown suspects. Bailey was immediately transported to Thumb McLaren Hospital by Central Huron Ambulance. Sadly, Ricky Bailey was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Bailey and his two sons, ages 11 and 20, had recently moved into their new home located at 2374 Rapson Rd. in Bad Axe.
Deputies were told by the two sons that they were all in different rooms of the home when the youngest heard a door opening. He then ran to his father to tell him that something was wrong. It was at that time that two unknown suspects armed with handguns appeared and shot their father.
Officers were told that the two suspects were yelling at the victim as he lay on the floor making reference to wanting “the money”.
While lying on the floor bleeding to death from being shot twice, Ricky Bailey was then further physically assaulted by one of the assailants while the youngest son attempted to barricade himself in a bathroom. The boy was then violently removed from the bathroom after one of the assailants kicked the door in and forced him to another room where he was then ordered to lay on the floor.
During this time, the 20-year-old son had hid in another room. The assailants then left which enabled the two sons to contact dispatch for help. The tragic incident took place in just a matter of minutes.
The suspects have been described as wearing black ski masks, black leather coats, black gloves, and black khaki type pants. It was unknown how they came to or left the scene.
It is believed the two suspects targeted the specific residence. However, it is unknown if they were there looking for those who had previously lived in the house or if they were in fact targeting the 59-year-old victim. He and his sons had not lived very long in that home.
A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects in this case.
