Oakland County Sheriff Deputies, the Waterford Regional Fire Department (WRFD) and Star EMS responded to the 50 block of Oliver Street on the report of two male subjects who had been stabbed. The 59-year-old complainant/victim who had fled the scene, went to a nearby gas station to report the incident. An additional caller, a neighbor, reported that a male subject had knocked on his door yelling for help.
Upon arrival, Oakland County Sheriff deputies looked through the windows and were able to see a man lying on the floor of the dining room. They made entry into the residence and found the severely injured man lying in a pool of blood. Deputies were able to determine very quickly that the victim, a 27-year-old man from Pontiac, was obviously dead and beyond any help. Paramedics from Star EMS provided telemetry to the attending physician at McLaren Oakland Hospital who declared the subject deceased.
Deputies located a second victim, a 59-year-old man, outside of the residence. He had severe lacerations to his head. The victim stated to deputies that the 51-year-old suspect, of Independence Township, came to his residence to purchase prescription narcotics and became enraged when he couldn’t get them.
The suspect then grabbed a machete and attacked both victims with it. He also appeared to have attacked them with a steak knife. Paramedics from Star EMS rendered aid to the surviving victim and transported him to McLaren Oakland Hospital for further treatment. He is listed in stable condition.
Deputies found a trail of blood from the residence to the backyard of a home located on Marquette Street leading them to the suspect. Deputies located the unresponsive suspect lying on the lawn.
Paramedics from Star EMS responded to the scene and rendered aid as it appeared that he was overdosing. Paramedics transported him to McLaren Oakland Hospital for additional treatment. The suspect was taken into custody without incident there. He is listed in stable condition.
Oakland County Sheriff Detectives, the OCSO Forensic Science Laboratory and an Investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on the scene and began their respective investigations.
Deputies located and secured a bloodied machete and a bloodied broken steak knife believed used in the attacks. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the deceased and an autopsy has been scheduled.
