COMSTOCK PARK, MI – Troopers from the Michigan State Police Rockford Post are investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on February 2, 2021, at approximately 5:14 P.M. at the intersection of M-37/Alpine Ave. and Westshire Drive, Alpine Township, Kent County.
A 2011 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, traveling south on Alpine Ave., attempted to turn east onto Westshire Dr. when the driver failed to yield the right of way to a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was traveling north on Alpine Ave. The crash caused the Chrysler to strike a third vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which was stopped at the stop sign on west bound Westshire Drive.
The driver of the Chrysler, an 85-year-old man from the Comstock Park area was transported to the hospital by Life EMS and was later pronounced deceased after succumbing to the injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Monte Carlo was also transported to the hospital by Life EMS and was treated and released with minor injuries.
The driver of Silverado was uninjured in the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in this crash.
The State Police were assisted on scene by Alpine Twp. Fire Department, and LIFE EMS. The investigation is ongoing by the MSP Rockford Post.
