GRAYLING, MI – The Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post was contacted in October 2020 to investigate an embezzlement complaint at Lovells Riverside Tavern in Lovells Township.

The owner stated that she suspected someone was stealing from the cash register in small amounts, but then she noticed a large amount of money came up missing. The owner gathered all the transactions and pieced together a string of missing money. The investigation led to an employee, 33-year-old Heather Lee Deursen from Grayling, being arrested.

An arrest warrant was issued for Heather Deursen on December 3rd, 2020. She was arrested by troopers at her residence on January 9, 2021 and lodged in the Crawford County Jail.

Deursen was arraigned on February 2nd, 2021, in the 46th District Court in Crawford County on one count Embezzlement by Agent or Trustee $1,000 or more but less than $20,000. Her bond was set at $5,000 or 10%. Her next scheduled court appearance is on March 9, 2021.
