FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI – On Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, at approximately 10:20 p.m., troopers from the Monroe Post responded to a disturbance involving gunshots at the Shady Creek RV and Park Resort, also known as Camp Lord Willing, located at 1600 Stumpmier Road.
Initial reports indicated that a man had shot a woman while she was in a vehicle and he then fled the area on foot.
A Michigan State Police sergeant arrived on scene and found the victim had been shot in the face. Additional units established a perimeter around the area and members of the Michigan State Police K9 Team and Emergency Support Team responded to the area.
Prior to the specialty units beginning their search, a deputy from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office located a subject walking on the side of Steiner Road which is located just north of Stumpmier Road. Upon making contact with the subject, he was found to be covered with blood. He was then taken into custody and lodged at the Monroe County Jail.
The 35-year-old woman was transported to the Oakwood Southshore Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
Investigators from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post as well as the First District Special Investigation Section are currently processing the crime scene with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Forensic Science Division.

Assisting at the scene were several members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as well as members of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Frenchtown Fire Department. The Monroe County Central Dispatch did an excellent job coordinating response from multiple entities to this incident.
