ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – A 9-year-old boy is fighting for his life today after he was involved in a tragic sledding accident on Saturday February 6th, 2021.
Oakland County Sheriff Deputies responded along with the Rochester Hills Fire Department (RHFD) to an address in the 2100 block of Somerville Rd. for an injured child.
The 37-year-old father and his 9-year-old son, from Royal Oak, were visiting the home of relatives in Rochester Hills. The father attached a plastic sled to the back of his 2009 Jeep Wrangler while towing his son in circles around a cul-de-sac. While being towed on the sled attached to the back of his fathers Jeep Wrangler, the son struck the back of a legally parked 2012 Ford Fusion.
The boy was transported by RHFD to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and subsequently life-flighted to Children’s Hospital in Detroit where he remains in critical condition.
Deputies on scene requested the OCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit to assist in the investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident which remains under investigation.
