DETROIT, MI – A 58-year-old man was killed early this morning when his vehicle slammed into a Detroit Police Scout Car that had been dispatched on an emergency call.
On Monday February 8th, 2021, at approximately 1:00 a.m., officers from the Second Precinct were responding to a request for backup with lights and sirens and traveling east on the Jeffries Service Drive, in a fully marked Ford Explorer, when they collided in the intersection with a Lexus IS 250, driven by a 58-year old man, identified as Clifford Woodards, that was traveling south on W. Chicago.
Medics were requested to the location and responded then transported the driver to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The officers were also transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition.
An investigation is actively being conducted by the Detroit Police Department’s Fatal Squad, a specialized unit that investigates fatal and critical traffic related incidents.
