DETROIT, MI – On Sunday February 7th, 2021, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the victim, an off-duty Detroit Police officer, was traveling south on Schoenherr in his personal vehicle when the 24-year-old driver of a Dodge Journey traveling west on E. 7 Mile Road at a high rate of speed, disregarded a red traffic signal and struck the victim’s vehicle.

A third vehicle, a Chrysler 300, that was stopped at the light, was also stuck with no one reported to be injured in that vehicle. Police and medics responded to the scene.  

The victim, who was conscious and talking, was transported to a local hospital by medics for treatment. He was listed in critical condition. The suspect and his passengers, three children, were reportedly not injured.

The suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The circumstances surrounding this accident are still being investigated. No additional information at this time.
