CANTON, MI – A 14-year- old girl has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of her grandmother, Cynthia Mosby, 65-years-old, both of Canton. Ms. Mosby had custody of her granddaughter at the time of her death.

She has been charged with First-Degree Murder and Second Degree Murder. The juvenile respondent is not being charged as an adult defendant; she has been adult designated. This means that upon conviction an adult designation allows the judge to have the option of sentencing the respondent as a juvenile, or as an adult, or to fashion a blended juvenile with the option of imposing an adult sentence if the juvenile is not rehabilitated.

On Monday, February 22, 2021 at 7:15 a.m., Canton police officers were dispatched to Ms. Mosby’s home in the 4150 block of Kimberly Drive, in Canton to investigate an injured woman.  The body of Cynthia Mosby, 65, was found by her son, who is the father of the juvenile girl.  His daughter was not present in the house when at the time he found his mother. The officers were directed to a bedroom in the home where they observed the lifeless body of the victim lying face down on the floor suffering from multiple stab wounds.
