Hillsdale County, MI – At approximately 8:10 PM on March 9, 2021, Troopers from the Michigan State Police Jackson Post responded to the 6500 block of S. Edon Road to investigate a report of a person yelling and shots reported to have been fired outside a residence.
Upon arrival in the area, troopers discovered a 32-year-old subject from Reading intoxicated and upset. It was determined the intoxicated subject exited their residence, began yelling, and then fired several rounds from a handgun into the wooded area behind the residence. No injuries were reported. The subject was taken into custody and lodged at the Hillsdale County Jail on probable cause of being in possession of a firearm while intoxicated and reckless discharge of a firearm. The firearm was recovered during the investigation. During the investigation, it was discovered this same suspect had been arrested for a similar offense in 2018, involving similar circumstances.
The name of the suspect is being withheld pending review of the incident and charges by the Hillsdale County Prosecutors Office. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Reading Police Department and the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department.
