DETROIT, MI – Today, the Detroit Police Department arrested two suspects for stripping bricks from a city-owned building on the west side.
On March 5, 2021, in the 4000 block of Whitney, neighbors in the area were concerned about two male individuals who were pulling down scrap bricks off an abandoned building, and contacted the Detroit Land Bank. The Detroit Police Department was informed, and responded to the location.
The officers arrived on the scene, and observed the individuals piling the bricks on four wooden pallets. The officers spoke with the two individuals, who claimed they were authorized to be working there, but after further investigation, it was determined that the suspects’ paperwork was not official.
The two male suspects were then taken into custody and conveyed to the Detroit Detention Center without incident. Their vehicle was towed.
A warrant package was submitted to the Wayne County’s Prosecutors Office for review and approval. The suspects, identified as Leon Sanders and Leo Sanders, both 59-years old, were arraigned on March 7, 2021. Both were charged with one count of Larceny and one count of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property. Both were given a bond set at $10,000.
Special acknowledgements to the Detroit Police Department’s 10th Precinct, General Assignment unit, and members of the community for bringing these suspects to justice.
