PONTIAC, MI – The Oakland County Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal traffic crash involving a single motor vehicle that occurred in the area of Cesar Chavez Avenue and West Boulevard.
A 28-year-old man from the City of Lapeer was driving a 2010 Chrysler 300 eastbound on Cesar Chavez Avenue, east of West Boulevard, when the Chrysler left the roadway to the north. The Chrysler collided with an embankment, causing it to go airborne and then collided into a railroad viaduct while still airborne.
The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The passenger, a 25-year-old woman from Pontiac was also pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was also wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol and/or drug use and excessive speed appears to be a possible factor in this crash. The crash remains under investigation.
