KALKASKA, MI – On Wednesday, March 10th, 2021, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post and a deputy from the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a business located on US-131 in Kalkaska for a woman acting unusual inside.
The trooper and deputy spoke with the woman, identified as 41-year-old Melissa Carol Evans, inside the store. She appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic analgesic. An employee of the store stated Evans had been walking the aisles and ran into a shelving unit. Evans also disappeared inside the restroom for an extended period. The trooper located a purse belonging to Evans inside the restroom. The purse contained heroin and suboxone strips. Evans did not have a prescription for the suboxone. Evans was placed under arrest and lodged in the Kalkaska County Jail.
Evans was arraigned on March 12, 2021 in the 87-B District Court of Kalkaska for one count Possession Narcotics and one count Possession Analogues. Her bond was set at $20,000 cash surety. Her next scheduled court appearance is on March 31, 2021.
