TROY, MI – D’Mario Thornton, 40-years-old, has been charged with 3 counts of Home Invasion following his arrest in the early morning hours of Sunday March 21st, 2021. Thornton was arraigned on March 23rd at 52-4 District Court and bond was set at $45,000.
On March 13th, 2021 Troy officers responded to a Home Invasion in the area of Coolidge and Big Beaver. The home owner reported high value jewelry and coins stolen while he was away for the evening. Responding officers were able to develop a suspect for the home invasion utilizing security cameras in the area.
On Saturday, March 21st Thornton was seen in the area of Livernois between Big Beaver and Wattles acting in a suspicious manner. Additional officers were deployed in the area and began an active surveillance. Officers observed Thornton enter two homes while he was under surveillance. It was later determined he stole jewelry and cash from each residence. As Thornton approached his parked vehicle officers attempted to make an arrest but Thornton fled on foot into the darkness. Officers established a perimeter and utilized a K9 track and thermal imaging technology.
Around 1:00 am a vehicle associated with Thornton was observed in the area of Wattles and I75. Officers observed a male subject walk down a driveway and enter the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and Thornton was arrested without further incident. It was then discovered that Thornton had entered an unlocked residence in the area and used the home phone to contact a friend to pick him up. While using the phone Thornton also seized the opportunity to steal cash from the residence which was recovered on his person. In the days following investigators attempted to retrace the suspects movements in an effort to recover additional stolen property.
