DETROIT, MI – Brianna Williams, 30-years-old, of Detroit, has been charged in connection with the non-fatal shooting of her 13-year-old son by his 10-year-old cousin.
On Tuesday March 9th, 2021, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 19400 block of Justine Street in Detroit, in response to a call about a child shot in the head. Upon arrival, officers located the victim with a gunshot wound to the right side of his forehead. Medics arrived on scene and transported the child to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries. It is alleged that a 10-year-old cousin to the victim found an unsecured handgun belonging to a relative of Brianna Williams and shot his cousin in the head.
“This case came to our office on the same day as another child shooting case, as a result of unsafe storage of a weapon, “said Prosecutor Worthy. Way too many innocent, very young children have easy access to these deadly weapons and this situation usually ends up with a seriously injured or fatally wounded child. I do not understand why the adults cannot safely store their firearms.”
Brianna Williams had been charged with Child Abuse Second Degree. She was arraigned on Sunday March 27th, 2021, in 34th District Court and received a $2000 personal bond. Her Probable Cause Conference is on May 6th, 2021, a Preliminary Examination date has not been scheduled.
