ELBA TOWNSHIP, MI – On Tuesday April 6th, 2021, at 4:29 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to an injury traffic crash involving a motorcycle on Lippincott Road to the west of Lake Nepessing Road in Lapeer.
A 49-year-old woman from Lapeer was the driver and lone occupant of a 2017 GMC Terrain. She was traveling west on Lippincott Road and slowed to perform a left turn into a private residential driveway. The 2017 GMC Terrain was across the east lane of Lippincott Road while making this turn. A 2003 Harley Davidson being drove by 69-year-old Gregory Velasco from Oxford was traveling east. Scene evidence supports that Velasco applied the brakes before striking the passenger side of the 2017 GMC Terrain.
Gregory Velasco, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle. Velasco was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the GMC Terrain was not injured.
The roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours for investigative purposes.
The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Lapeer Township Police Department, Michigan State Police (Lapeer Post), and Lapeer County EMS Ambulance Service.
This traffic crash remains under investigation by Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies. Lapeer County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstructionist will be conducting speed analysis to determine if excessive speed (limited 55 MPH) is a factor. Toxicology results remain pending as well to determine if this played a role. Upon completion, the investigation will be presented to the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office to make a determination regarding formal criminal charges.
