DEARBORN, MI – The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 49-year-old Robert Lee Bailey with the September 2020 shooting death of Darius Whiting.

On Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020, at approximately 5:30 PM, Dearborn Police Officers responded to the area of Michigan Avenue and Schlaff for a report of man found dead in a pickup truck.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Darius Whiting, 48-years-old, of Farmington Hills, had died due to gunshot wounds.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to consult witnesses and gather evidence. Based upon the information at that time, the shooting did not appear to be a random act.

Robert Bailey has been charged with Murder – First Degree, Felony Murder, Robbery – Armed, and multiple counts of Felony Firearm. He was arraigned before Honorable Judge Gene Hunt of the 19th District Court and remanded to the Wayne County Jail.

Based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections, Robert Bailey has a lengthy criminal record. He is listed on the MDOC website as a Parolee being held in custody since January 29th, 2021. He has previous convictions for:

  • Eavesdropping Upon Private conversation
  • Computers – Use to Commit Crime Max 2 – 4 Years
  • Assault of Prison Employee
  • Prisons – Prisoner Possessing Weapons
  • Homicide – Murder, Second Degree
  • Weapons – Felony Firearms

The next court hearing will be a Preliminary Exam scheduled for April 30th at 9:00 AM.
