ROMULUS, MI – Devon Hackney, 19-years-old, of Dearborn Heights, has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his father, Alex Hackney, of Romulus.
On April 21st, 2021, at approximately, 2:02 p.m., Romulus police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 14100 block of Conover Place in Romulus for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim in the driveway of the residence with three gunshot wounds to the chest. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. It is alleged that there was a physical altercation between the defendant and his father before the fatal shooting.
Devon Hackney has been charged with one count of Open Murder and one count of Felony Firearm. The defendant was arraigned and remanded on Sunday, April 25th, 2021. He has a Probable Cause Conference on May 5, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. in 34th District Court. On Monday, April 26, 2021, the defense filed a bond motion that was heard by Judge Brian Oakley. He ordered a $125,000/10% bond with a tether provision if posted.
