LANSING, MI – Eaton County Sheriff Reich has sent out notification that the deaths of a father and his two children near Lansing that was believed to be murder-suicide is now being investigated as homicide.

Information provided very early to Eaton County Sheriff’s detectives conducting the death investigations of 47-year-old Joseph Lechleitner, 5-year-old Vivian Zwick and 3-year-old Anson Zwick indicated their deaths were a murder suicide.  Eaton County Sheriff’s Office Detectives have continued to extensively investigate this crime and are now considering it to be a murder investigation.  Detectives do not believe this is a random act of violence.  

Around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021, deputies were alerted to an address on Old River Trail in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located Joseph Lechleitner who was deceased. Deputies also located the two children, Anson and Vivian, who were suffering from gun shots wounds.  Vivian was found to also be deceased. Anson was alive and deputies quickly started to render aid.  He was rushed to the hospital by Delta EMS and was listed in critical condition until he died on Wednesday April 14th, 2021.
