TROY, MI – On Wednesday April 21st, 2021, at approximately 5:11PM, the victim agrees to meet a subject at Ace Auto Wash in Troy located at 2886 East Maple Road to possibly sell his blue 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee to him.

The two met and took the vehicle for a test drive with the subject eventually agreeing to purchase the vehicle after showing the victim a large amount of cash.

The victim exited the vehicle to retrieve some personal items from the trunk. After the victim opened the trunk, the suspect drove off, heading Eastbound on East Maple Road, traveling into the City of Sterling Heights.

The victim worked at the Auto Wash business and got his co-worker to chase after the suspect. The co-worker and his cousin caught up to the suspect at a traffic light approximately ½ mile into the City of Sterling Heights. The co-worker attempted to “box-in” the suspect who rammed the stolen vehicle into the co-worker’s vehicle as he was attempting to get away.

After being dispatched, the responding officer put out a “BOLO” to area departments to look-out for the stolen vehicle. The Warren Police Department located the vehicle when it was involved in a traffic crash on Southbound Mound Road, North of Nine Mile Road.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was apprehended and identified as a 16-year-old boy from Detroit. The victim’s vehicle was “totaled’ in the traffic accident. And, not only was the victim’s vehicle a total loss, to add insult to injury, the large amount of cash the kid flashed, was found to be counterfeit.
