MADISON HEIGHTS, MI – On Thursday May 6th, 2021, at 11:46AM, Madison Heights Police were notified via 911 from a citizen that a man with a handgun was observed just entering the Target store at 32001 John R.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a white hoodie. Madison Heights Police arrived and observed a suspect matching the same description outside of the Target store. The suspect at that time noticed the police officer. The suspect then ran inside the Target store as he pulled a black handgun out of his waistband.

Madison Heights Police immediately made notifications to Target and secured the scene. In a matter of minutes the suspect then exited the rear south side door of Target with a black handgun in his hand. Officers having the area secured, were already at the back door of the store and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon. The suspect eventually dropped the handgun and was arrested with no further incident.

The on scene investigation revealed that the suspect had entered at least one other business, for unknown reasons, in the area before going back into the Target. The suspect, while in Target, pointed the gun at a Target employee and ordered her to open the rear door so he could leave. The handgun recovered was completely black in color and was found to be a BB gun.

The suspect was determined to be a 15-year-old Madison Heights resident. The case will be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
