MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – On Monday, May 5th, 2021, an inmate at the Isabella County Jail was transported to a local emergency department for treatment regarding low oxygen levels.

The inmate had several medical conditions, including heart and breathing ailments. The inmate was not feeling well over the weekend, the medical contracted staff on-sight continued to monitor his condition. As the inmate’s condition did not improve the decision by the medical team was made to transfer him to a local emergency department. The inmate experienced and episode while at the local emergency department, the local emergency room staff determined the need to transfer him to Sparrow hospital via an ambulance. During transport to Sparrow hospital in the ambulance the inmate suffered a catastrophic cardiac episode and died.

The deceased has been transferred to the pathology unit at Sparrow hospital. The cause of death is unknown at this
time but suspected of being medically related to his ongoing medical issues.

The deceased name is not being released at this time as next of kin notifications are still trying to be made. The inmate was serving a sentence for Methamphetamine drug charges.
