UPDATE: Detroit Police issued a correction to this article. This is the corrected information that was released at 7:30 pm Sunday May 16th:

There is a correction to the entry concerning the incident summary for the motor vehicle accident involving a train. 

The summary originally reported that the driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital for treatment and later succumbed to her injuries. This information is not correct. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital and listed in temporary serious condition. She did not pass. 

Please make necessary updates. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. 

DETROIT, MI – On Sunday May 16th, 2021, at approximately 2:15 a.m., a 24-year old female driver was traveling in a white Chevrolet Malibu going east on W. Chicago broke through the barrier and struck a moving train near the Southfield fwy service drive.

After the accident, the driver left the scene on foot. The victim was located about one half mile down the road in the area of W. Chicago and Artesian. She was transported to the hospital for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still being investigated.
