DETROIT, MI – Mayor Mike Duggan announced during a press conference this afternoon, Monday May 17th, 2021, at 2:00 PM who will be in charge of the Detroit Police Department once James Craig steps down from his post and he begins his retirement.

Chief Craig announced last week on Monday, May 10, 2021, that he would retire from the department as of June 1st, 2021.

Not only is James Craig leaving the Detroit Police Department but so is the 1st Assistant Chief Lashinda T. Stair.

James White has been named interim police chief. There will be a process to name Craig’s permanent replacement.
