DETROIT, MI – A 12-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of D’Vonte Relford, 25-years-old, of Detroit. He will be prosecuted as a juvenile respondent.
On May 16th, 2021, at approximately 9:28 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 16630 block of Mark Twain Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located D’Vonte Relford on the ground outside of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. It is alleged that the 12-year-old boy fired a handgun during a physical altercation, fatally striking Relford in the back.
The 12-year-old boy has been charged as a juvenile with one count of Manslaughter and one count of Felony Firearm. The preliminary hearing will be held today at 1:30 p.m. before Magistrate Leslie Graves at the Juvenile Detention Center.
