DETROIT, MI – Hand picked by Aretha Franklin herself, Jennifer Hudson portrays the iconic Queen of Soul in the highly anticipated movie ‘RESPECT’.
The world lost Aretha Franklin on August 16th, 2018 from advanced pancreatic cancer but the Queen of Soul lives on in this movie. Her music is legendary. Generations grew up to and listened to the hits that only she could record.
The movie not only has Jennifer Hudson as Aretha but also stars Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Forest Whitaker, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, and Marc Maron. Forest Whitaker takes on the role as her father Reverend C.L. Franklin.
Founded in 1932, the New Bethel Baptist Church was led by the Reverend C. L. Franklin from 1946 until 1979 and was at the center of the Civil Rights Movement in Detroit. Aretha began her career as a child singing gospel in that very church. From there she rose to fame.
Aretha had a love for Detroit like none other. Detroit was her home and she was always proud to let any and all know that this is where it all began. This movie is sure to give all of us a look into her life that so many have possibly wondered about.
