CHELESA, MI – Keith Appling, the former basketball standout at Michigan State University was arrested today by Michigan State Police at approximately 10:30 a.m. without incident in 1500 block of Commerce Park Drive, in Chelsea, Michigan, a firearm was also recovered.
Appling is accused of gunning down his relative Clyde Edwards, 66-years-old, on the front lawn of the victim’s home in the 3200 block of Whitcomb in Detroit on Saturday May 22nd, 2021.
The life of Keith Appling has spiraled out of control after playing professional basketball. In July 2017, Appling was sentenced to one year in county jail and four years of probation for carrying a concealed weapon and resisting a police officer. In February 2020, Appling was charged with delivery or manufacture of 19 grams of heroin in a car he was attempting to sell.
The investigation is ongoing.
