ST. CLAIR COUNTY – Two people are dead as the result of separate crashes in St. Clair County that occurred on May 29th, 2021.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, deputies were dispatched to the area of Yale Road and Cribbins Road in Grant Township. A witness had observed a Ford F-150 run off the road and strike a tree. After the collision, the vehicle caught fire. Grant Township Fire and Rescue responded and put out the fire. The body of an unidentified person and sole occupant of the vehicle was removed after the fire was extinguished. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Yale Police Department and Tri-Hospital EMS also assisted at the scene of the crash.

Just after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were called to Miller Road and Bryce Road in Emmett Township for a crash. When they arrived, deputies were able to determine that a 2010 Ford Focus, driven by a 17 year old male from Shelby Township, was being driven eastbound on Bryce Road. The driver of the car failed to yield and struck a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by 28 year old Joseph Scott Smith of Port Huron. Smith, who was the lone occupant of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Mussey Township Fire and Rescue and Tri-Hospital EMS assisted at the scene of the crash.
