arrested

MANISTEE COUNTY, MI – On Saturday June 12th, 2021, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post was dispatched to a suspicious situation in the 18000-address block of Northwood Hwy in Arcadia Township. A person called 911 and said it appeared someone had set up a campsite on the seasonal residence land and had been there for a few days.

The trooper went to the campsite and found a man and woman inside of a tent a short distance off the driveway. They said they had a disagreement with a family member and were forced to leave the family member’s home. They believed they were still on their family’s property.

The man, a 46-year-old from Indiana, had a parole violation warrant out of Indiana with full extradition. The woman, a 40-year-old also from Indiana and girlfriend of the man, did not have any outstanding warrants. While the trooper was waiting for backup to make the arrest, the man took off into the woods. Additional officers were requested along with a canine team.

Deputies from the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Police set up a perimeter. A canine team from the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. They located the man hiding under a pine tree after a brief track. The man was arrested without further incident.

A search of the campsite produced suspected methamphetamine. It was determined it belonged to the parole violator. He was lodged in the Manistee County Jail for Resisting and Obstructing, Possession of Methamphetamine, and the Parole Violation out of Indiana. The woman packed up the campsite and was told to return to her family’s property.
