HARRISON TOWNSHIP, MI – On Wednesday June 16th, 2021, at 12:55am, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Prentiss Apartments for a man that had been shot.
Upon arrival, deputies located Jomarr Pye, 43-years-old, of Harrison Township lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The suspect, a 66-year-old man from Harrison Township was performing chest compressions on Pye. Pye was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier in the evening, Pye had been out with his girlfriend and assaulted her. After the assault, the girlfriend returned to her parents’ home, where she has been residing for the past several weeks. The girlfriend informed her father, the suspect, of the assault that had occurred. A short time later, a verbal altercation took place outside of the apartment complex where all involved parties reside. During this altercation, the suspect shot Pye one time in the chest with a 9mm handgun.
The suspect, who was uninjured was taken into custody on scene. The weapon was recovered from the suspect who does have a valid concealed piston license. The suspect, who has been cooperative, was lodged at the Macomb County Jail with no bond but has since been released. Macomb County detectives continue to investigate this incident.
This investigation was presented to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. A decision was made by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office that further investigation is needed on this incident. The suspect has been released pending further investigation. Once follow up is completed, this investigation will be presented again to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
